Nikihl Varaiya is a Consultant with Brodshatzer, Wallace, Spoon & Yip.

Nikhil Varaiya is Professor and Chairman Of The Finance Department at San Diego State University. His extensive experience in education includes teaching at the Cox School of Business, Southern Methodist University and the School of Business Administration at the University of Washington in Seattle, as well as executive programs at the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. Presently he teaches courses in competitive analysis and financial management in the MBA for Executives Program at SDSU, and is also an instructor in the Executive Challenge Program and the Community Economic Development Program of SDSU's College of Extended Studies. Dr. Varaiya was the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award in the MBA for Executives Program in 1994 and 1996 as well as the recipient of Outstanding Paper Awards from the Financial Management Association and Journal of Retailing.

Dr. Varaiya received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and his M.A. in Economics from Bombay University. He completed his M.B.A. and Ph.D. work in Finance at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Dr. Varaiya's research interests are in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, valuation and strategic management. A published author whose numerous articles have appeared in Banker's Magazine, Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Finance, Management Science and Strategic Management Journal as well as various other publications, Dr. Varaiya has also made presentations to the Financial Management Association, the Financial Executives Institute and the American Finance Association.

His consulting assignments have encompassed fairness opinions in the context of equity issues; valuations in litigation assignments; financial analysis of new products; evaluation of firm financial performance; and review and development of business plans. Dr Varaiya serves as Vice President of Professional Development of the San Diego Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, where he has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1991.
